This time of year a lot of college students are planning Spring Break vacations to places like Cancun, Miami, and Cabo...

But some will be spending their time here at the not-so-tropical Jersey Shore helping Sandy-ravaged towns to get back on their feet.MTV, MTVu, and United Way have teamed up to create Spring Fix, an alternative Spring Break for those who want to help in areas hard hit by Sandy.

Students can apply to become one of 50 chosen to spend March 17-23 in New York and New Jersey rebuilding devastated communities. MTV cameras will be there to capture the whole thing, with the network expecting celebrities and other public figures to participate.

Those who are chosen will have their travel and accommodations paid for, and will be invited to a free concert at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson on Saturday, March 23rd as a thank you. Performers for the concert have not been announced yet, but the show will be open to anyone who visits Great Adventure that day, with a portion of the proceeds going to United Way.

Applications must be submitted by January 28, 2013.
