A Stafford Township police officer avoids injury after his patrol vehicle was hit by a car while he was conducting a traffic stop on Route 9 near Southern Regional High School Sunday around 12:43 am.

Patrolman Luna said a Silver Ford Edge struck his vehicle and took off.

Another officer pulled the 2011 Ford over on Route 9 near Marybell Road and arrested 31-year old William Dippolito Jr. of Lanoka Harbor and then charged him with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.

He was processed at the Stafford Police headquarters, and later released.

Dippolito Jr. was issued numerous summonses, including DWI, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident and Failing to Report a Motor Vehicle Accident.

Patrolman Luna was not injured, but his patrol vehicle was towed from the scene.
