Lakewood Police Captain Gregory Staffordsmith tells Townsquare Media News that officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Forest Avenue and 11th Street around 8:00 am.

When they arrived, police saw a bus that has Jay's Bus Service written on the side of it, on top of an unoccupied and parked vehicle on the side of the road.

There were 15 students on board the bus, Captain Staffordsmith said, and none were injured.

The investigation into the crash and how the bus veered off road and on top of a vehicle continues as "the circumstances surrounding the collision are not readily known."

Captain Staffordsmith said that further information will be released as it becomes available.

In the meantime, anyone with information including witnesses to the crash, is urged to contact Lakewood Police at 732-363-0200.

Lakewood public school district attorney Michael Inzelbuch confirmed to Townsquare Media News, what was reported by NJ Advanced Media, that the bus was heading to Bais Shaindel, which is a private religious school, at the time of the crash Tuesday morning.

Dan Alexander contributed to this report.

The Lakewood Scoop was the first to report the accident.
