One of the many benefits of being in the shadows of New York City...the bagels. Yet another food the Jersey Shore has nailed. Whether you go for the pork roll and cheese on an egg bagel or enjoy the simplicity of a cinnamon raisin toasted with butter, you can't go wrong with a fresh Jersey Shore bagel. Here are my faves in no particular order.

  • Terrace Bagels & Cafe II, Route 9, Freehold

Their slogan "More Than Just A Bagel" is true to form. Soups, sandwiches, salads, muffins are all offered. The inside has a very New York Deli feel to it. Another plus, they have gluten-free and vegetarian options.

  • Oh! What A Bagel, Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville

Aside from the awesome name, Oh! What A Bagel's bagels are 40% larger than their competitors. All bagels are hand made and are kettled, not steamed. Their breakfast sandwiches are really good too. Make sure you're on the lookout for their signature van on Route 9 that you can't miss.

  • Bagel Station & Deli, Monmouth St., Red Bank

Hence the name, The Bagel Station is steps away from the tracks in Red Bank. This place is not only legendary for their bagels and sandwiches, but for their coffee as well. They've also got every variety of cream cheese you can imagine. Plus, if you're a 5-year-old trapped in an adults body like me, ask them for a PB&J on a toasted bagel. Awesome.

  • Jersey Shore Bagel & Deli, Drum Point Rd, Brick

Quoting urbanspoon.com, "The hot breakfast sandwiches are the best this side of the Metedeconk." Customers rave about Anthony and the staff. This place has become a must for breakfast or any meal in Brick and beyond. Try the apple turnover.

  • Bagel Masters, Broad St., Shrewsbury

Lines are out the door most mornings which is not unusual for this Jersey Shore staple. You can't say enough good things about their pork roll and cheese. Spoken from experience and after reading review after review, Bagel Masters may have "the perfect bagel."

  • The Bagel Nook, 51 Village Center Dr. Freehold

From the Flamin' Hot Cheeto bagel to a Fireball bagel, the creativity of The Bagel Nook is off the charts.
