The Monmouth & Ocean Towns Leading the DWI Ticket Blitz
You'd think with Uber and Lyft that people would just stop driving while intoxicated. Truth is, most don't know if they actually are too drunk to drive.
On Friday, the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign started in New Jersey. Through January 1, police departments are increasing patrols to get impaired drivers off the road.
This is a state-wide initiative, but some Monmouth and Ocean police departments have recieved grants to pay for officer overtime. On average, it's about $5,500 per department.
Here are the towns that have gotten grants for "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."
- Asbury Park
- Freehold Twp
- Monmouth Beach
- Spring Lake Heights
- Bay Head
- Ocean Gate
- Point Pleasant Beach
- Point Pleasant
According to NJ Advance Media, during last year's holiday crack down NJ police made 1,416 DWI arrests. They also issued 5,182 speeding tickets and 2,916 seat belt tickets during the campaign.
Buckle up, slow down and don't drink and drive!
