The Most Popular Baby Names of the Year
The Social Security Administration released a list of the most popular names for American baby boys and girls born in 2013...and there are some big surprises!
For the third year in a row, Sophia was the most popular name for little girls. Emma, Olivia, Isabella, and Ava make up the rest of the top five.
For the boys? Noah was the most chosen, followed by Liam, with Jacob falling out of first place for the first time since 1998! Mason and William were the 4th and 5th most picked, respectively.
Most surprising? The Washington Post reports that 'for the first time in more than 50 years, the most popular boy’s name in the United States wasn’t Michael or Jacob.'
I wondered how popular my name is these days, and apparently us Lauries are a dying breed! It went from being the 311th most popular name in my birth year (1985) to not even making the top 1000 at all in the last 15 years. (No, Lori is NOT the same.)
My fellow DJ's names are much more popular, especially Liz (Elizabeth) who is still in the top 10!
