It’s winter and quite often the weather is not cooperative for getting out and getting a good walk or hike here in the Garden State. Usually is “wet” conditions more so than temperatures that cause the problem.

I was recently reminded after the big snow we had, that there is a perfect location with an indoor track to use and it’s FREE and right here in Toms River, how great is that.

Have you figured out where this indoor track is located yet? If you guessed the Ocean County Mall on Hooper Avenue then you were right. If you go to the Ocean County Mall if you look on the floor you will see the maroonish colored tile line that outlines the entire indoor floor space. You cannot miss this tile line, its the “walk line” and if you follow it you can get your “steps” in and do it dry and warm.

We did a nice walk and got in almost 3 miles, just by simply following the indoor walk line. We did several laps of the entire mall to get that mileage in, but it was worth it to stay dry and warm. The opposite is also good for the dead of summer when temps are 100* outdoors you can get your steps in with cooler temps out of the sun inside at the mall.

So next time you think you can’t get some exercise because of Mother Nature, remember you can right at the Ocean County Mall on Hooper Avenue in Toms River. Just follow the “indoor walk line” and before you know it you will have put in a few miles and do it safely.
