This past week New Jersey made history as the prohibition on recreational marijuana ended and legal sales began for adult use. Several "weed" stores opened around the Garden State, none however here in Ocean County.

I wanted to witness this history-making day and I traveled to the nearest location for us, which happened to be in Egg Harbor Township, and hundreds if not thousands showed up for the opening day last Thursday. CLICK HERE to see photos from the opening day in New Jersey.

According to a recent Patch article, there are two towns in Ocean County that could possibly become the first to open doors to marijuana dispensaries for legal adult use. South Toms River and Lakehurst are waiting for what is next.

According to the Patch post, the Borough of South Toms River approved three businesses including Altitude Cannabis, Shore Cannabis, and The Social Leaf. So now the Borough of South Toms River and the three applicants are waiting to see what is next for the possibilities in the borough and wait for the state to move on their applications.

As for Lakehurst, in the Patch story, Lakehurst "is planning for one license for manufacturing, cultivation or distribution, and two retail licenses, with one downtown and one in the Route 70 corridor." according to Lakehurst officials. It appears Lakehurst officials had about a dozen or more applicants reach out for the possibility of opening a store in Lakehurst.

So there are the two locations that probably have the closest locations possible for legal adult-use cannabis stores in Ocean County, South Toms River, and Lakehurst.
