In many cases, these pictures are unfortunately showing the results of a bug bite that could very well be a tick bite that could result in Lyme Disease, and that's a scary proposition.

And by the way. If you are concerned about a bite or markings on your body, think twice before making social media your first stop, or your only source of info, especially if the people who are chiming in don't have medical expertise. Go see a doctor in case it's something serious.

So, why are the ticks so prevalent this year? Well, according to the experts who spoke to Today, it has something to do with the abundance of acorns from two years ago which allowed for a ton of the mice that carry these ticks to thrive at the time the ticks are most likely to spread disease.

If you see that very well known target rash, you should be getting yourself to a medical professional as soon as possible. But please don't put your mind at ease because your friend's sister's girlfriend diagnosed it as a mosquito bite, unless of course your friend's sister's girlfriend is trained and licensed to make that diagnosis.

And if you want to learn more from the professionals, all you have to do is visit the Hackensack Meridian Health website to get a ton of information.

Who knew that all of this could start with acorns a couple of years ago. It's hard to keep up with nature.
