Toms River woman causes accident by running red light on Route 37
A Toms River woman's impatience at a red light leads to a four car collision after she was t-boned at the intersection of Route 37 and Hooper Avenue Tuesday around 6:05 pm.
Police say Melissa Hernandez, 27, was stopped at the light but then started driving through it and was hit by an oncoming Volkswagen Jetta, who had the green light, forcing her car to overturn and strike two other vehicles stopped at the light.
"We are very happy to report that due to all occupants of the four involved vehicles wearing their seatbelts, and the airbags deploying in the first two vehicles, there were no serious injuries in this accident," Toms River Police Spokeswoman Jillian Messina said.
The driver of the Jetta refused treatment at the scene and later went to Community Medical Center for minor complaints of pain.
The accident is being investigated by Traffic Safety Officer Mark Nater.
