We have a rich history here in New Jersey. Since we became a state on December 18th, 1787, one of the original 13 American colonies, we have been building a deep history here in the United States.

We also have a great history when it comes to food and dining here in the Garden State. So it's no wonder we have several restaurants featured as the most amazing and historic restaurants here in America.

Of the 30 restaurants selected here are the 5 from New Jersey that made the list:

This is the oldest running restaurant in New Jersey, opening its doors in 1742. The Black Horse features "American classics such as chicken pot pie and whole Maine lobster with baked potato and drawn butter." Plus many contemporary dishes also.

The historic Clinton House, in Clinton, opened its doors in 1743. The Clinton House "serves up a range of burgers and classic American dishes such as Yankee pot pie, lobster rolls, and New York strip steak."

In 1745 the Harrison family opened the doors at the Rocky Hill Inn and Tavern. Some say President George Washington enjoyed dining at this Jersey icon. "Although the inn, which shut during World War II, remains closed, the restaurant has continued to feed guests with burgers, wings, and more."

The historic NJ restaurant was officially opened in 1780 and the Cranbury Inn played a part in the American Revolution.

This historic rest stop has been used by travelers since it opened its doors in 1706 as the eatery was located along a popular trading route. Among other things, they feature the intriguing Coconut Old Fashioned cocktail.
