This story begins on May 8 outside of a Forked River home in the Pheasant Run section when Robert Fischer was found lying on the sidewalk in front of his home with some of his neighbors stopping to render him aid, according to Lacey Police Chief Michael DiBella through the Lacey PBA 238.
When Lacey Police Officers Alan Abrecht and Michael Hutman arrived on scene they were able to determine right away that Fischer didn't have a pulse and so they instantly began lifesaving measures including CPR chest compressions and used an AED.
It worked in a big way as Fischer began to breathe again and regain a pulse, which was confirmed by Lacey Township EMS who had then arrived on scene including EMS Captain Ray Benedetti, Senior EMT Sean Mullaney, EMT Chad Fraser, EMT Gianna Norwood and EMT Chelsea McCabe.
Fischer was then given additional life saving measures to help bring him all the way back by Lacey Township EMS and RWJ Paramedics.
As Fischer began breathing on his own again, he was brought to Community Medical Center.
Chief DiBella said that Robert Fischer ended up making a full recovery and returned home at a later date.
After he had returned home, Lacey Police Offers Abrecht and Hutman paid him a visit and not long after that both patrolmen were pretend with the 'Life Saving Award' by the Lacey Township Police Department.
Officers Abrecht and Hutman were humbled by the honor.
"Both officers are confident that any other responding police officer would have had the same positive outcome; It was their timing, and location within close proximity to Robert’s home, which was paramount," Chief DiBella said in a statement. "We wish Robert well, and thank him for his continued support."
The man the officers saved is forever grateful.
"Earlier today (Thursday) I spoke with Robert Fischer who welcomed this story and thanked our officers for giving him a second chance at life," Chief DiBella said. "The Lacey Township Police Department is extremely proud of these two officers and our local EMS for a job well done.”
