Two men indicted for attempted murder of police officer in Burlington County

Two Burlington County men have been indicted for shooting at a police officer's patrol vehicle in the Sunbury Village section of Pemberton Township in 2014, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced on Monday.

The incident took place on September 24, 2014 when a Pemberton Police Officer parked on Lemmon Avenue watched as a bullet fired in his direction, and six-inches above his head struck the roof of his marked patrol vehicle.

An investigation identified Tayron Brown of Trenton and Kavon Carter of Pemberton as the suspects, both of whom were charged in September of 2019.

An indictment was delayed due to the pandemic.

Tayron Brown, 24, of Trenton, has been indicted on charges of Attempted Murder (First Degree), Conspiracy to Commit Murder (First Degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Second Degree) and Aggravated Assault (Third Degree).

Kavon Carter, 23, of Pemberton Township, has been indicted on charges of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree) and Aggravated Assault (Third Degree).

Both men are waiting to attend an arraignment in Superior Court.

Brown is currently jailed in New Jersey state prison and Carter in the Burlington County Jail, both for unrelated offenses, Prosecutor Coffina said.

Both are being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Mike Angermeier, supervisor of the BCPO Gang, Gun and Narcotics Task Force.
