For years, the Garden State has been a target of punchlines, bad jokes, and insults from everyone from stand-up comedians to writers and actors in Hollywood, so Garden State residents never have high expectations when it comes to this type of thing.
And we've all heard the jokes about the factories and the smoke in the areas surrounding Newark Liberty International Airport, greeting visitors to our state.

So, if New Jersey doesn't make this list of the top 10 ugliest states in America, it would come as a surprise to state residents, not because we are an ugly state, but because we have an ugly reputation.
