Unique Fish Caught at Island Beach State Park – What is It?
Kimberly Nagy-Lychock caught this fish at Island Beach State Park on Tuesday, but what is it?
This is a houndfish or crocodile needlefish. They can grow to be 5 feet long and 10 pounds. They also have an impressive display of teeth.
Houndfish are saltwater fish that are primarily found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, particularly in the Red Sea and off the coast of South Africa. They like to hang around lagoons and reefs. Houndfish are often found in small schools.
Houndfish pose little danger to swimmers, but are known to travel fast and jump out of the water.
