Ocean County is getting ready to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine.

Over the weekend at my Walgreen's I noticed a huge sign at the entrance that read "WE DO NOT HAVE THE COVID-19 VACCINE." This notice was bigger than the sign reminding customers to wear masks.

So clearly people are asking about the vaccine, and that's a good thing.

Ocean County officials gave us an idea of what the vaccine rollout will look like and a rough timetable too.

Ocean County’s Public Health Coordinator Dan Regenye told News 12 NJ that when the COVID-19 vaccine availability becomes widespread, the way it gets administered will be much like the way they have testing sites setup, Ocean County College for example.

Regenye said:

As this vaccine becomes more readily available, supply increases. You will see this shift from more regional locations to smaller sites throughout the county – within a school, government setting, county facility, faith-based setting -- there are many sites we’ve identified to meet any need moving forward.

Sounds like a solid plan, right? So when is the rollout happening? We've heard that frontline workers, the elderly, and those with compromised health situations will get the vaccine first, and I agree with that.

The Ocean County Public Health Coordinator expects that there will be enough of the vaccine for "mass distribution" available by the first quarter of 2021. Fingers crossed!
