Manchester Police are investigating a pedestrian accident on Route 530 and Schoolhouse Road that sent a Whiting woman to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon around 4:32 pm.

Officers learned that the driver of a white 2012 Ford Fusion was heading northbound on Schoolhouse Road and was in the process of making a left turn onto Route 530 when she struck a 75-year old woman who was crossing within the marked crosswalk.

Evidence at the scene, as well as driver, pedestrian, and witness statements, revealed that the Ford struck the pedestrian within the crosswalk at a slow rate of speed, knocking her to the ground in the roadway.

A passerby stopped and assisted Patricia Burke to the shoulder and sidewalk area until police and E.M.S. personnel arrived.

Burke was alert and conscious at the scene but complained of pain to her right foot.

She was transported to Community Medical Center by Quality Medical Transport.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, but police believe that 76 year old, Patricia Keefe of Whiting failing to yield to a pedestrian within a crosswalk has been determined to be the causing factor.

This crash is being investigated by Ptl. Jesse Hoydis of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
