Five adult students with disabilities were injured when a small bus struck a utility pole in central New Jersey.

Howell Township police say the students were among seven people aboard the bus when it crashed around 1:40 p.m. Monday near an elementary school in the Monmouth County community. School officials say the students did not have any ties to the elementary school, but further details about them were not disclosed.

Police say the five students only suffered minor injuries and were treated at hospitals, while the driver and the aide escaped unharmed.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The crash snapped the utility pole in half, briefly causing a power outage in the area. It also disrupted travel there for several hours while the pole was repaired.
