Monmouth and Ocean Counties have reported no major power outages due to our most recent winter storm.

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden joined us on the show this morning with some important preparedness reminders as the big storm approaches.

After a hot day without power for many residents in Middletown and other places in Monmouth County, there is some better news this morning.

Jersey Central Power and Light has taken to social media to help keep the lines of communication open with its customers. Trisha Ingram, who works with website and social media development in the utility's Communications Department, said the tools were developed after a customer listening campaign and several focus groups following some extended storm outages. A $24 million effort is underway by Jersey Central Power & Light, to trim trees in 13 New Jersey counties to help reduce outages. The year-long project will cover 3,400 miles of power lines.

JCP&L customers should no longer experience protracted power outages similar to that which proceeded Superstorm Sandy.

Assemblyman Greg McGuckin, a member of the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, feels Jersey Central Power & Light Company (JCP&L) should withdraw their recently submitted request to the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) for a $31.5 million rate hike in order to cover the costs of Hurricane Irene in September, 2011 and the snowstorm which followed in October that same year.

JCP&L, which came under heavy criticism for a lack of accurate information during Hurricane Sandy power restoration efforts, has unveiled a plan for better communication with towns during large outages.

While most Jersey Central Power and Light customers in Ocean and Monmouth Counties have been restored to full power, there is a section of Brick Township that remains in the dark today. It was an area that has hard-hit by Hurricane Sandy.
