While eating lunch at a Pittsburgh restaurant where the Reds play the Pirates tonight, Frazier noticed a man choking as he talked with teammate Ryan Ludwick reports MLB.com blogger Mark Shelton.

“I said ‘I think that dude is choking over there.’ He was a little obese and there were two women side-by-side trying to give him the Heimlich. [Ludwick] said get over there because I was the closest one. So I went over there and was yelling at them to get out of the way. They did and I gave two pumps and it came out.”

Frazier said, ““It was a big fat piece too, it was pretty insane,” Frazier said. “It was a good 30 seconds they were trying at least.”

The man paid for Frazier’s lunch and thanked him “many times” according to Frazier.

He described it as surreal. “I have never done that before.”

Frazier was the winning pitcher in 1998 for Toms River “Beast Of The East” and went on to play for the Rutgers baseball team. He was drafted #34 overall by the Reds in the 2007 major league draft and had been in the Reds minor league system the past several years. He was called up to the Reds recently hit a homerun off Colorado’s Jamie Moyer even thought the bat slipped out of his hand as he swung.
