Volunteers Needed for Continued Sandy Recovery [AUDIO]

The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund is marking the upcoming Sandy anniversary by partnering with Jersey Cares to host two Sandy Service days on October 26 and October 29, during which volunteers can take part in more than 50 projects across the state designed to help those who need it most.

“We know there is still a lot of work to be done. There is a lot of beach debris to be removed and homes are still devastated. We just thought it would be a great opportunity to remind people of what happened here one year ago while also providing help in the recovery efforts,” said First Lady Mary Pat Christie. “This devastation isn’t gone and recovery takes a lot longer than 12 months.”

People with all kinds of experience can volunteer.

“We’re able to not only tailor projects to people who have special talents. But, there are also plenty of projects for people who may only know how to hammer a nail or who may just be bringing their strength to bear to move debris. There will be opportunities to cook for first responders as well,” said Christie. “It’s always helpful for people who have already been through so much to have people around them who have positive attitudes. They need that comfort.”
