It's the time of year when out-of-towners visit the Jersey Shore. Let me be the first to say "welcome." Enjoy yourself. But use the following as a guide of what not to do when you are around Jersey Shore natives.

  • Comment on Our Driving

If you live at the Jersey Shore, you are the superior driver. Period. I would also refrain from saying things like "you're driving like a maniac" or "slow down, will you?" Everyone else is going too slow and needs to get out of our way. Do we have somewhere to be? It doesn't matter, worry about yourself! Oh, and for the love of all things holy, DON'T try to make a left turn. Bottom line, life is at full speed here. Move or get out of the way.

  • Question Our Food

Got a hankering for pizza. Don't you dare say "Dominos." One thing we do right at the Jersey Shore is food. Pizza would be at the top of the list. There's a pizza joint every mile up and down the Shore. Pick one and enjoy!

Also, at the end of late night chain restaurants are not an option. Diners are a way of life, and almost all of them are open 24/7. Can't find one? One word. Wawa.

  • Ask us if We Know, Have Met or Seen Any 'Jersey Shore' Cast Members

Most of us have seen one of the mutants from 'Jersey Shore' over the years. We promptly made fun of them and moved on with our lives. No, I don't know "Snooki." No, we can't go see the house in Seaside. "The Situation" can't even run a tanning salon. You know the "T" of "GTL." By the way, if you say "GTL," you'll be smacked. We are working hard to shed the image that reality show started. MOST of us are not like them.

  • Mock Our Music

If you think it's funny to fist pump to a Bon Jovi song. Stop it. Most of us don't care whether you like Bon Jovi or not. If you don't, your musical taste is terrible and judgement is questionable.

In case you didn't know, Bruce Springsteen is kind of a big deal here. Everyone at the Shore has heard a Bruce impression. Not one of them has ever been good, ever. "The Boss" has a distinct sound best heard from the man himself. Sing along (how can you not), but remember that the Jersey Shore has a rich musical history that is not to be messed with. Failure to comply will result in our final topic.

  • Ask Us if We're in "The Mob" or Know Anyone Who Is

First, why would I ever tell you that? Organized crime is not fake. It's a very real thing. We accept it for what it is and move along. That being said, that doesn't mean that there are Tony Sopranos running all over the place. Don't ask if business "X" is a front for something. We're not going to tell you even if we know. Most of us don't have "connections" and can't have even your worst enemy "swimming with the fishes."
