The American Red Cross has recently announced that there is an emergency shortage of blood type "O," also known as the universal donor making it the most transfused blood type out there.

It's bad guys...according to a press release, the Red Cross has less than a two-day supply of type O blood for emergency rooms.

“Type O blood is the most needed blood type in the hospital, but the Red Cross is currently facing a shortage of this important blood type across the country,” said Dr. Pampee Young, chief medical officer, Red Cross Biomedical Services. “Type O negative is the universal blood type and is what emergency room personnel reach for in the most serious situations when there is not time to determine a patient’s blood type.”

To help encourage people to get to a blood drive and donate, the American Red Cross is offering a $5.00 Amazon gift card via email for anyone who gives blood from now until June 10th. If you donate from May 24th to 28th, you will also receive a t-shirt.

To donate blood, individuals must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh at lest 110 pounds, and overall be in good health.
