An Asbury Park man has been placed under arrest and charged for allegedly throwing a brick square at the head of a man on Tuesday and then taking off, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey announced on Wednesday.

An Asbury Park Police Officer on patrol around 2:45 am on Tuesday when they found a 68-year old Ocean County man lying on the steps of the Jersey Shore Adult Day Care building on Main Street.

The officer said that the man was bleeding heavily from the head and was unable to speak at that time.

He was rushed to the hospital where he received emergency treatment for severe head injuries.

Asbury Park Police and the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office then launched a joint investigation into the brutal attack and were able to identify 51-year old Eduardo Martinez as the suspect.

As a result, Eduardo Martinez, 51, is being charged with first-degree Attempted Murder and third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

Martinez remains in custody pending a first appearance and detention hearing to take place in Monmouth County Superior Court.

The case is assigned to Assistant Prosecutor Matt Bogner of the Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Bureau, with the Asbury Park Satellite Office.

Information on Martinez’s legal representation was not immediately available.
