Have you seen the flyer on Facebook warning of sharks sighted around the Jersey Shore?

It claims to be a 'Water Advisory' from the National Coast Guard related to shark sightings in Belmar, Spring Lake, Sea Girt, and Manasquan Inlet.

The flyer reports three separate incidents involving a Great White Shark off Monmouth County beaches yesterday between 5-9 p.m.

And it's completely fake.

In fact, the same fake 'warnings' were posted yesterday on a California beach. Townsquare News confirmed from representatives of Belmar Beach Patrol and the US Coast Guard that it is a hoax.

I'm not sure the purpose of posting something like that, but if it's supposed to be funny, well, try harder.

You know why you shouldn't go in the water today? Not because of sharks, but because it's cold and frickin raining!

Might you find Sandy debris? Yes. Great White Shark fins? Doubtful.

Stay safe!
