Police in Brick Township, specifically their Street Crimes Unit, placed six people under arrest and charged each with narcotics related offenses.

Each of the arrests and charges applied over the course of the last month as the SCU continues its crackdown on drugs surfacing in the township.

Detectives pulled over 49-year old Kimberly Sweet from Brick along Hooper Avenue near Gloria Ann Smith Drive and during the course of the stop on January 10, police said she admitted to being in possession of heroin.

She then proceeded to pull 10 wax folds of heroin, wrapped in a rubbed band, from the front of her pants.

Lawes then allegedly caused a scene when he started yelling and refusing to listen to police commands at the stop.

Following his arrest, he was released on a summons.

Then, on January 21, SCU Detectives pulled over a car on Route 88 and Chambers Bridge Road after the driver committed several motor vehicle violations.

During the stop, detectives saw both people inside the vehicle leaning over to inspect a plastic baggie in the center console area and then, the driver, put said baggie down his pants.

Both men were then processed and brought to the Ocean County Jail.

SCU Detectives then arrested two Lakewood residents on January 24 after seeing the vehicle heading along Drum Point Road and Brick Boulevard speeding and not maintaining their lane.

They made a stop on Brick Boulevard, outside of the Burger King, and when they approached the vehicle, detectives saw heroin, right in plain sight.

Upon further investigation, detectives also found hypodermic syringes, Clonazepam, prescription legend pills, and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

The driver, 42-year old Marlena Martinez, from Lakewood, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic syringes, possession of clonazepam, possession of a prescription legend drug without a prescription, careless driving and possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a motor vehicle.
