Caller who phoned in bomb threats on Point Pleasant Beach Boardwalk, now in handcuffs
The man who called in not one but two bomb threats on the Point Pleasant Beach Boardwalk on consecutive days earlier this month has been placed in not one but two handcuffs.
Point Pleasant Beach Police Chief Joseph Michigan released a statement on Thursday announcing the arrest of 19-year old Nkosi Jones of Brick who is now being charged with two counts of False Public Alarm, a second degree crime and two counts of Terroristic Threats, a third degree crime for calling in two separate bomb threats following an investigation by Detectives.
The first incident occurred on June 3 around 1:15 pm when borough police responded to Jenkinson's Main Business Offices on the boardwalk after the business got a phone call reporting a bomb threat.
Due to the bomb threat, the boardwalk and all businesses and the beach was evacuated by police and several law enforcement agencies.
Several bomb detection K9’s were brought in and searched the entire boardwalk and by 4:00 pm that day, the boardwalk was deemed safe and was reopened to the public.
Jones then allegedly made another call the very next day to the same office and the same safety protocols and precautionary measures were taken.
Once again the diligent and quick work of police helped with getting people to safety as they investigated the threat and deemed the boardwalk safe and clear to reopen.
Jones is now in the Ocean County Jail following his arrest for the bomb threats.
“I’d like to thank all of the surrounding agencies that responded on two separate occasions to assist our officers with evacuating and searching the boardwalk," Chief Michigan said in a statement.“I’d also like to acknowledge the members of my detective bureau for their hard work and efforts in this investigation to locate and identify Mr. Jones as the suspect who made the threatening phone calls on both June 3rd and June 4th.”
Anyone with any additional information about these incidents is asked to contact the Detective Bureau at 732-892-0500 extension 173.
