I say I'm going to do this every year, and for whatever reason, I haven't done it yet. The Cape May-Lewes Ferry is one of those short trips across the bay that people rave about.
You can spend the day wandering around Lewes, Delaware, grab some lunch, check out a few local shops, and then hop back on the ferry to Cape May at the end of the day.

And what's really cool is this upcoming excursion, combining a visit to the Cape May County Zoo with a ride on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.

The only problem is that it takes off from the Delaware side! How about switching it up and doing it the other way around, starting at the Cape May County Zoo in Middletown Township and then catching the ferry over to Delaware?
Now that sounds like a perfect little day trip!
A Perfect Day Trip To Enjoy This Spring
It's about an 85-minute cruise across the Delaware Bay, so you can do the morning at the zoo, take the boat ride over around noon, spend the rest of the day in Delaware, and head back for dinner in Cape May.
If you've never been to the Cape May County Zoo, it's the best. I have such great memories taking my kids there when they were younger. They loved the giraffes! I remember we sat there for hours just watching them roam. It has over 250 species of animals, birds, and reptiles. It's also free, with donations welcome.
You can see in the pictures below just how special it is!
