Customers: Avoid Making The Mistake I Saw At Tommy’s Tavern In Freehold, NJ
Hello all ye gentlefolk.
So today, I got some not so great news from the doctor (more on this in the coming days) so instead of parting ways immediately, my mom and I decided to grab a quick bite to eat at Tommy's Tavern in Freehold.

My mom and I were chatting when I happened to witness a pretty common occurrence in restaurant life.
One of the hostesses was walking a family to a nearby table when one of the men in the party being seated stopped her.
Man: Wait, can we sit in one of those booths over there?
Hostess: Umm, I hav-
Man: That shouldn't be a problem, right?
Hostess: Yea, um. Let me check.
The agony on her face...but yes, she went back to check and did ultimately relocate where they were going to be seated.
Here is why this situation causes agony for the restaurant staff.
Are you aware how a usual server rotation works? Let me explain...
Let's say there are 4 servers working on a given evening. This means the restaurant is split up between FOUR sections and as tables come in, the hostess rotates so everyone gets their equal share.
Ya know....Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple and repeat...
Now listen...if you have a back problem, a physical limitation or any health condition that requires you to sit in a booth or near the door, by all means speak up.
But I can tell you from personal experience, the situation I described above is a pain to deal with on both sides.
The hostess must oblige the guest but then receive crap from the servers for not ever seating anyone in their section.
The server watches money fly out of their pocket when a group being lead to their section ends up swerving off to the left to be seated elsewhere.
Is it the end of the world if it happens? No.
But is it a be all end all if you don't sit in a booth? Also no.
My mom and I were discussing this as we ate and her response was: "If I am paying for a meal, I think I should be able to sit where I want."
This is valid but sheesh, you pain!
Maybe the solution is for restaurants to only have booths moving forward so everyone's tush can be comfortable while they chow down.
Oh...and be nice to the Jersey Shore's restaurant staff. It is not an easy job.
