If you have a teen musician or know of a teen musician that is proficient at any instrument in middle school or high school band or who is now in college, please tell them about an amazing one-week experience starting July 22nd!
The not-for-profit Jazz Arts Project in Red Bank is working in conjunction with The Basie to find teen musicians ages 13 through 19 years old. These teens will have the unique opportunity to spend a week with other peers in the Monmouth County area to learn about and create a jazz music show (no jazz experience necessary). That show will be performed at Two River Theatre in Red Bank, and select students will also perform at Jazz in the Park (Riverside Gardens Park in Red Bank).

The Jazz Arts Project Summer Academy runs July 22nd through July 27th in Red Bank, and you would be hard-pressed to find an opportunity of this caliber anywhere else in our area (which, by the way, looks really good on a high school resume or college application whether or not your teen is pursuing a music degree.)

Your teen will get to work with some incredible and famous jazz artists who are brought in to mentor and teach jazz music and the unique improvisational skills that go along with it. Students will spend full days for a week meeting and working with like-minded peers from area schools, all while honing their craft. If your teen is in school band, they will bring back with them in September some sharpened skills on their instrument and increase their value to both their school band and music director/band leader.

The Jazz Arts Project was created to bring world-class jazz shows featuring stellar professional musicians to Monmouth County for your enjoyment. Money raised from  ticket sales at these shows goes toward scholarship opportunities and teaching teen musicians to appreciate jazz music and keep it alive and thriving for a new generation.

On a personal note, the experience and opportunities that my son Ben has received as a result of not only this summer camp but the year-long academic jazz program through Jazz Arts Project is priceless. I highly recommend it!
