It turns out that while Christmas and other holidays involve a ton of shopping, and Halloween doesn't, that doesn't mean Halloween isn't hitting you hard in the wallet.

According to the website Visually, the amount of money we spend on the October holiday is just one of the eye-opening and jaw-dropping statistics surrounding Halloween.

Let's start with the money, however. On a national level, we will spend close to $7 billion dollars on Halloween. That is a mind-numbing number that is hard to even fathom.

Just as a point of reference, $47 billion was spent on Christmas last year, and that's supposed to be the big shopping holiday.

In addition to all the money we are laying out for costumes, candy, and decorations, Halloween also has some other pretty impressive statistics as well.

This one probably won't make you feel any better about all the money you're spending on Halloween. It's time to talk about how much candy you're eating.

As a nation, we purchase $600 million dollars in Halloween candy annually. That's a lot of sugar.

Now, we're not sure how much of it is making it to the bottom of your stomach specifically, but let's just say it's not the healthiest food choice time of the year.

So, we spend too much and we eat too much, and that seems to be just the way we like it.
