If you aren’t aware, today is a day meant for celebrating the greatest film series in the galaxy!

Though the original Star Wars film, A New Hope, was actually released on May 25, 1977, May 4 has become synonymous with the film series due to the commonly spoken phrase “May the Force be with you” sounding a lot like “May the Fourth be with you.”

Geeks, dweebs and nerds alike should take today to celebrate their dorkiness and to celebrate the revolutionary films that they love.

In 2011, the day was officially celebrated for the first time in Toronto with a variety of activities for diehard fans including a film viewing and costume contest.
