We here at the Jersey Shore have been going at full summer speed since Memorial Day weekend, but late this afternoon it becomes official.

First let me mention the irony of my use of the phrase 'full summer speed' was not lost on me. The one thing Jersey Shore residents know without a shadow of a doubt in the summer is that no matter where we go and when we're going there, it won't be at full speed.

Now back to the original point. Today, at 6:34pm to be exact, summer officially arrives. The summer solstice is here, and the way I'm looking at it, today is spring's last day and tomorrow we can call it summer. Make sense?

So now we gear up for all the excitement, aggravation, beach days, heat and humidity and time by the pool that we all embrace during a Jersey Shore summer. It's three glorious months that we all look forward to throughout the year.

So for the rest of us who conducted our own little countdown to this day, which most likely started 30 seconds after autumn 2015 began, you can rejoice. The countdown has reached zero!
