Homeowner narrowly escapes, dog perishes in Manchester house fire

A homeowner was able to escape the flames burning across her Manchester home but her dog was unable to get out in time and died as a result.

Manchester Police said in a statement that they received a report of an active fire around 11:39 pm on Friday night at a home on Tern Court in the Pine Ridge section of town.

When officers arrived on scene, they saw the flames had engulfed a large section of the back of the home and coming out of the back door.

The homeowner and sole occupant of the home was able to escape but suffered smoke inhalation.

Her dog couldn't get out and died in the fire.

Police said the homeowner was treated on scene and then brought to Southern Ocean Medical Center by Manchester Emergency Medical Services for treatment and evaluation of her injuries.

The fire was quickly put out by members of the Whiting Fire Company, the Manchester Fire Company, the Ridgeway Fire Company, the Lakehurst Fire Company, Joint Base McGuire Fire Department, and the Pinewald Pioneer Fire Department.

The Ocean County Fire Marshall’s office investigated into the cause and origin of the fire and Manchester Police said that it was determined that the fire was accidental in nature and the result of improperly discarded smoking material.
