This New Jersey Town Is The Blueberry Capitol Of The World
Blueberries are a delicious fruit. They taste great and they are good for you. Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants, which help protect your body, and they also provide fiber and vitamin C. Many people enjoy blueberries because they may help support heart health, brain function, and digestion.

Where Is The Blueberry Capitol Of The World?

According to Food Republic, the Blueberry Capital of the World is right here in the Garden State. "While Washington is the U.S. state that grows the most blueberries, one small New Jersey town claims the title "Blueberry Capital of the World." With a population of just over 15,000, as of 2026, Hammonton, New Jersey, is by no means big. But one aspect of the community is huge: its blueberry production."
Hammonton is a cute town and yes it's where we go to pick, what else, blueberries. We have enjoyed picking blueberries in Hammonton for years.
According to reports, Believe it or not, you can thank New Jersey for helping put blueberries on tables across America. South Jersey farmer Elizabeth White teamed up with USDA botanist Frederick Coville, and together they figured out how to grow wild blueberries commercially. In 1916, they sold the nation's first commercial blueberry crop.
Today, you can still visit Whitesbog Historic Farm near Hammonton, where this sweet piece of Garden State history all began. We visited Whitesbog, and it was a unique place.
We don't have a lot, but we are growing several blueberry bushes at home. I will keep you posted on our crop later this summer.
