Celebration plan for Jackson Veteran turning 100 years old

To celebrate, the Jackson PBA and Jackson VFW are holding a special vehicle parade and birthday party.

"We want to celebrate this man's life," Jackson Police Officer Mike Basso said.

Jackson World War II Combat Veteran gives back to community

It's been a remarkable journey for Wally Jamison from his military service to his dedication to the Jackson Township community when he came back home.

"Wally is a national treasure," Basso said. "He landed in Omaha Beach, fought through France, helped liberate Metz in the Battle of Metz which is the most fortified city in the world at that point. He was injured in combat. When he was wounded, his plane crashed."

Then, when Wally came back home, he did so on a mission.

"He really dedicated his life to service, he helped found the Cassville Volunteer Fire Company, he founded the (Jackson) VFW, he founded the order of the Purple Heart," Basso said. "He just never stopped giving back to the community."
