A Virginia woman has pleaded guilty to several charges related to a motor vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County in January of 2020.

In the blood test that soon followed the crash on January 26, 2020, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said they learned that 36-year old Michelle Roselli of Spotsylvania County, Virginia had 8.6 nanograms of Fentanyl in her system at the time of the collision.

As part of the investigation to that point, Roselli was charged with DUI, Vehicular Homicide, and Assault by Auto.

Prosecutor Billhimer said that the state will be looking for a term of six years in prison for the Vehicular Homicide charge and five years for the Assault by Auto charge, both of which would run concurrently.

New Jersey State Police responded to the call about the crash around 5:50 pm that night near mile marker 64 southbound on the parkway and learned that Roselli in her 2012 Honda Civic left her lane of travel and struck a 2001 Toyota Scion.

The vehicle hit was being driven by 32-year-old Kathy Nguyen of Bayville with 66-year-old Tri Nguyen of Berkeley Township, 51-year-old Thuy Duong of Berkeley, and a juvenile passenger all in the Scion.

After the initial collision, the Scion veered off road and into a wooded area where it struck several trees.

The passengers were brought to HMH Southern Ocean Medical Center, but Tri Nguyen and Thuy Duong were later brought to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Pomona where Thuy was treated for serious injuries and Tri passed away a couple weeks later.

Kathy and the front seat passenger were treated and released after initial care.

The OCPO said that Duong is still recovering in a Rehabilitation Facility.

Police at the crash scene said that Roselli appeared to be intoxicated and tried to administer field sobriety tests but were unable to successfully do so.

She was brought to Hackensack Meridian Health Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment and two months later, surrendered herself to police.

Roselli was then brought to the Ocean County Jail.
