💰  Misprinted Dimes in Circulation

💰  Collectors Value the Coins at $500,000 Each

💰  Dozens of These Coins are Known to Exist

For most of us, carrying cash is a thing of the past.

The debit card or credit card has replaced cash and coins as a way of paying for the stuff we buy.

It seems like everyone has that jar in their house that contains the change we've collected.

Sometimes we'll dip into the jar to grab a fist full of change for tolls, while some just collect the coins because "one day they may be worth something."

I still have a jar of "wheat" pennies; perhaps one day, they will be worth more than a penny.

Let's not forget all the change we have lying around in our car.

Given how rarely I use coins for anything it's truly amazing that I can always find loose change jingling around in my car.

If you're a collector of loose change, now may be a good time to take inventory.

As you scan through the coins, be on the lookout for 1975 dimes.

Look for the letter "S."   If you don't see the "S," you may have hit the jackpot.

The coins were pressed in San Francisco, and they should have had an S to signify that.

A coin collector, however, discovered the error, after purchasing a proof set from the mint.

No S-proof dimes were manufactured in 1968, 1970, 1971, 1975 1983, and 1990.

There are about two or three dozen however since 1968, and hundreds that are circulating from 1970, 1971, 1983, and 1990.

In a story on Fox News Digital,

Ian Russell, the president of GreatCollections Auctions LLC, explained that "what makes this coin so rare is that all 2.8 million dimes produced from the San Francisco mint in 1975 should have a little "S" on the coin.

But two were discovered 45 years ago without the S mint mark."

One of these dimes is currently up for auction at greatauctions.com, where the current bid is up to $266,000.

Experts expect that when the auction is over in about a month, the final bid will exceed $500,000.
