It was once one of the most popular concert venues in the state...and now it might be closed for good by the end of the month.

The Izod Center (formerly known as the Brendan Byrne Arena and Continental Airlines Arena) at the Meadowlands Sports Complex is no longer the hot spot for entertainment, thanks to increased competition from the Prudential Center in Newark and NYC venues like Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center.

NJ.com reports The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which oversees the state-owned arena, is set to vote on a plan today, which will decide the facility's fate.

A proposed deal would shift all upcoming events after Jan. 31 to the Prudential Center in Newark. That includes the Chris Brown concert on Feb. 21, and Maroon 5 show on March 8.

One lawmaker is already planning to sue to stop the closing from happening, amid some allegations of shady business by the Governor. (Ah, politics. Is this the plot from a House of Cards episode?)

One thing's for sure, even though the Meadowlands parking situation in recent years has been a bit of a disaster, I always enjoyed how easy it was to get into and out of East Rutherford. Driving into Newark has never been all that enjoyable...because it's Newark.

This is a developing story.
