I was walking to 7-11 with my grandson this past weekend, and for the second weekend in a row, I witnessed some drivers right here at the Jersey Shore who couldn't care less about the safety of our children as long as there's a green light in their sight that they just have to make, and it needs to stop, before an unthinkable tragedy happens. What the hell is wrong with some people?

I am proud to say my neighborhood in Point Pleasant Boro is a great place for families, and there are constantly kids on their bikes, scooters and skateboards, enjoying summer just the way they should be, and then the peacefulness is shattered by a vehicle racing down Bridge Ave, Northstream Pkwy or any of the other quiet side streets. And they're doing it, and putting kids in jeopardy all because they want to make the light.

Along Northstream Pkwy, you see residents with those "Drive Carefully Kids Live Here" signs, and those speak volumes. That means that so many people aren't that they felt the need to put the signs up. And how absolutely frightening and maddening is that?

No one should have to wonder if their kids are safe on local streets because some idiots think their busy schedule is more important than the lives of our loved ones. And by no means is Point Pleasant Boro the only place with this problem. Not by a long shot. Every town has their own Bridge Ave. or a Northstream Pkwy, and that is why I think this is so important to talk about. Now. Before a tragedy happens. Before the headlines bring tears to all of our eyes.

I'm not someone who exaggerates, and I'm not someone who tries to make drama. this is a real problem, and it's not getting better. We're getting busier, and we're all always in a hurry. And that's dangerous.

And school is about to open and that means more cars and buses on the roads and more traffic. And that means more frustration and more rush. So we better get slowing down and being careful right to the front of our very busy minds, because the price of not doing that is way too high.

I'm not preaching. We've all been in a hurry, but if one kid doesn't get hurt, or even worse, because we moved this to the front of our mind, then it's a job well done by all of us. Please pass it along.
