Jersey Shore Fisherman’s Startling Encounter With Another Great White Shark
What’s with all the extra Great White sightings at the Jersey Shore lately?
Just a few days ago the U.S. Coast Guard Station Cape May reported another Great White shark was less than a mile off the coast near Sea Isle City.
The shark was anywhere between 8 and 13 feet according to fisherman Jim Piazza. Imagine this guy swimming up to your boat!
The fisherman said that the shark was totally unphased by their presence. In fact, he almost hit him because he almost did not move out of the way. He is not even a full-grown boy yet, just look at his sheer mass!
Prior to that sighing, another 1,000-pound Great White Shark was spotted swimming 150 miles off the shoreline at the Jersey Shore.
Also, a nine-foot juvenile white shark was found off the coast of Atlantic City on May 4th as well.
Experts say it is not a bad thing, it means the ecosystem is healthy. However, it is intimidating!
I'll tell you one decision I made right now...I’m never, ever jumping over the side of a boat to go swimming ever. Boater friends of mine have tried to convince me to do that time and time again saying it is no problem. Why would anyone do that? When on the shoreline, it is important to be vigilant as well, but that is a risk I’m willing to take, probably because my feet are touching the ground.
The ocean getting warmer means more of our shark friends are heading north so look out! We always hear it and I know it is true, shark attacks are super-rare. Sharks are always out there and we just never actually see them. Understood. However, for those of us, that jump over the side of a boat for a swim, you really are asking for it. What did Whitney always say? Oh yeah, “hell to the no”.
They are magnificent creatures though, from a distance.
