Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian has just sent a message to the public that all of New Jersey should definitely listen to.

This past Friday, Gillian sent out a letter pleading residents and visitors to refrain from giving seagulls ANY food while on the Ocean City boardwalk this Summer.

Feeding seagulls is actually illegal in Ocean City but the biggest piece of information to take away from this situation is that the birds are getting increasingly aggressive and there have been more incidents reported.

In Ocean City, if you are caught feeding the seagulls you could be fined up to $500 and penalties could also result in spending up to 90 days in jail.

In addition, the mayor also has thought ahead by asking all Ocean City businesses to give enclosed to-go food containers to help avoid any seagull incidents.

"Cut off this easy and unnatural food supply. That means not just refraining from feeding them, but protecting your food from them," Gillian said. "Please understand that you can't hit them or throw things at them. But you can help by keeping food away from them."

So basically, the theme in Ocean City is to avoid any interaction with seagulls that involves food so we can try to live harmoniously with these birds once again.

Now being that the seagulls in Ocean City are not going to be that different from the Seagulls that we encounter here at the Jersey Shore, we should be following the Ocean City Mayor's advice.

The more food you give the seagulls, the feistier they will get. So....in case you are still on the fence....

DON'T FEED THE SEAGULLS AT THE JERSEY SHORE
