Let me be clear - there never is a good group of people to be targeted by a scam. All scams are evil. But, after the past couple of years have left millions of people jobless, going after job applicants seems especially cruel.
Yup, that's exactly what's happening. WYYZ in Detroit shared that job scams are the latest attacks to hit. The article goes on to explain that the scam works by offering people fake jobs, and then asking them to pay for equipment they'd "need."
It's important to remember that an employer will most likely NEVER ask you to pay for office equipment, and if they do, it's a good idea to reach out to an official in the company to double-check. And I know this is cliche, but listen to your gut - if something seems too good to be true, it most likely is.
And let me reiterate - if you are a scammer who is targeting someone who is just trying to get back on their feet and provide for themselves and their family, you should be ashamed of yourself. The pandemic has affected everyone in some way or another, and it's sad that some people just can't have compassion for that, and are using it for their own personal gain.
