May I start this post by saying that I am eternally grateful for all police officers, fire fighters and other public figures who dedicate their lives to keeping all of us safe.

Coming up on Sunday, October 6th is the 38th National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service where firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty are given the recognition that they deserve.

Two of these firefighters are from the Jersey Shore, so let's take the time to honor one of our own.

It is a bit far but the ceremony is going to take place at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Their names will  be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

Here are the Jersey Shore Honorees:

Firefighter: Thomas Miserendino

Age: 71

Beachwood Volunteer Fire Company #1

Passed away June 4th, 2015

He became ill during the department's Memorial Day activities.

Firefighter: Chief Engineer Pasquale DiBenedetto

Age: 68

Englishtown Fire Department

Passed away August 2nd, 2018

He suffered a stroke shortly after responding to a carbon monoxide detector alert and he even remained on site for additional calls.

These are people that put the public before themselves and lost their lives because of it.

More than 5,000 people are expected to attend this event and I truly hope that if you cannot attend, you take a moment to be thankful.

Be thankful for your family. Be thankful for your friends. Be thankful for your health. And most importantly, be thankful for everyone who takes on the burden to fight, both alive and fallen, so you can focus on those top priorities.
