Let's take a look back to the very beginning, when Kelly's Tavern got its start. Jump in the time machine with us.
It all started in 1949, and it began across the highway from where Kelly's stands today. Ed and Mabel Kelly bought a bar in Neptune City called Ruby's Twin Boro Tavern.
The name was changed to Kelly's Corner Tavern, and word spread quickly about this soon-to-be-legendary place.
Kelly's Tavern Pre-Dates The Garden State Parkway
Remember, this was all going on before the Garden State Parkway was built, so we're traveling back in Jersey Shore history.

In the 1950s, the tavern was too small to contain all the business it was attracting, so in 1959, its location was moved to a more spacious spot. It's the same location where Kelly's stands today.
In the 1970s, the tavern was enlarged, the Tiffany room was added, and the legendary status of Kelly's Tavern continued to grow.
Kelly's Tavern Became More Legendary Each Decade
A new full-service kitchen was added in the 80s, and Kelly's continued to thrive and its name continued to be a household name at the Jersey Shore and beyond.

We all think of Kelly's Tavern in Neptune City for St. Patrick's Day fun, but it is also a beloved Jersey Shore landmark and destination all year long.
