This time of year, the need for food donations is urgent. There are plenty of families who need help and would love a holiday meal, and one local grocery store is making it easy for all of us to help the cause.

A&P on Rt. 35 in the Cliffwood section of Matawan is holding a food drive to help the Community Food Bank of NJ, a partner with the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

They have pre-arranged bags full of groceries complete with some holiday items, and basic things like cereal, coffee, and vegetables that can be purchased for $10 - $25. Each purchased bag is then kept at the store and picked up at the end of the day by the Foodbank.

Paul Bongart, general manager of the store said the event is 'great for community. It's a great time of year to give, with Thanksgiving.'

The bags are available for purchase today until 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tess Langston is a store employee who volunteered to run the food drive. She said, 'I work...two jobs, I know it's rough times...but I always give to others in need. I'm honored to do it.'

It's a heartwarming attitude that we should all have, and a reminder of how good people can be.

A&P stores in Old Bridge and Holmdel are holding similar events at their stores.

It's an easy way for all of us to help others during the holidays!
