Moms Day 5K this Saturday

Men running in heels? That and so much more for moms, dads, and kids at this FUN family event, whether you are a runner or just want to do a Fun Run with your kids!

The Manasquan Elementary School PTO hosts its annual MomsDay 5K fundraiser this Mother's Day weekend.

It all begins on Friday, May 8th, 6 pm - 9 pm, with Race Bag Pick-up at the Manasquan Fire Company #2 on Parker Avenue. Runners can get their race bibs, t-shirts, and race bags containing a variety of give-away items. Runners that have not registered can do so at this time.

The MomsDay 5K takes place on Saturday, May 9th at the Manasquan Elks Lodge on Rt. 71 and Stockton Lake Boulevard. There is a One Mile Family Fun Run that begins the day's events at 9 am. Medals of participation will be awarded to all children. There will be music to warm up all participants, and the entertainment will stay for all of the festivities and the family-stye barbeque.

Then there's the Dad's Two-Block Trot at 9:30 am, where courageous dads are asked to trot 2 blocks in Mom's shoes and compete for prizes for the best costumes, as well as the First Place Finisher. Participans must compete in heels no less than 2 inches in height! This is a fun event that is sure to provide more than a few laughs. Last year's competitors represented their favorite TV moms in style.

The MomsDay 5K starts at 10 am. All races begin and end on Stockton Lake Boulevard, east of the Elks Lodge. The 5K race takes runners on a scenic tour of Manasquan's quaint neighborhoods, and includes a beautiful stretch along Manasquan's beachfront.

The family-style barbeque lunch and carnival takes place at the Elks Lodge following the 5K race and goes 'til 1 pm. Prizes will be awarded to race winners in multiple categories. There is also a silent auction of some great summertime items including a girl's Beach Cruiser from Brielle Cyclery and a Nickel Board Skateboard from Inlet Outlet. There will be plenty of activities for the kids after the race including a bounce house and carnival-style games.

Race registration prices: $20 for kids in the 1 Mile Fun Run, $25 for students in the 5K Run, $30 for the 5K. Registration for the 5K also includes entry into the 1 Mile Fun Run. Registered 5K runners can warm up and run with their kids in the 1 Mile Fun Run. The Dad's Two Block Trot is free to any male participant who would like to run in Mom's Shoes.

And following the family barbeque, a grown-ups after-party will be held at the Manasquan Beach House on Main Street. From 3 pm - 6 pm, a race bib from the event gets you drink specials and live musical entertainment.
