Remember the big changes planned for Monmouth Mall? Looks like they're not happening. At least for now.

The Asbury Park Press reports Kushner Companies abandoned the idea of their $500 million proposed overhaul of the Eatontown property at Wednesday night's Borough Council meeting, before the board even had a chance to vote on zoning changes.

The plans would have included hundreds of apartments and transformed the current mall into an open-air shopping and lifestyle destination.

Hundreds of residents turned out to oppose the plans, and applauded the news that the redevelopment would not be happening.

Others on social media thought of the dropped plans as a lost opportunity and questioned if the changes would have ultimately been good for the mall and the town as a whole.

Regardless, looks like the mall is staying as is for the time being.
