I was asked this question and rattled off the names of 20 actors, and I was wrong on every one of them.

It might help to explain how actors got to the top of the list for each state in this 24/7 Wall St. study.

The experts there simply used the number of Wikipedia page views the actors received to determine the most popular one.

And here are the top-notch, incredibly popular actors who didn't top the list in New Jersey. Take, for example, Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. They are some of the most celebrated actors in history, and they don't top this list.

Maybe Wikipedia users go for a different generation of actors, so what about these names? How about Tom Cruise, Joe Pesci, Queen Latifah, Susan Sarandon, Ray Liotta, Danny DeVito, James Gandolfini? None of them has the most Wikipedia views.
