There is so much great food here in New Jersey that it's hard to imagine picking just one as the state's best food. But when the choice made by foodie experts is not one of the first three that come to your mind, it really gets some attention.

If you're talking about New Jersey's best local food there are a few things that immediately come to mind, but for the folks at Wide Open Eats, their choice may very well surprise you.

Let's go over some of the obvious choices that came to all our minds when we heard the question, and yet, none of these were the top choice of these experts.

The absolute first food choice that I thought would easily be New Jersey's best local food is pizza. There is no state in America that does pizza better, and yet this was not the choice for the Garden State.

Then, of course, there's the absolutely obvious low-hanging fruit which some of us call pork roll, and others call Taylor Ham. There's no need to have the debate in this instance since this wasn't their choice either.

Then it must be our bagels then, right? They're made with that special New Jersey water that makes them so delicious. But, no, that's not the choice either. So what is it then?

The foodies at Wide Open Eats say that New Jersey's best local food is the hot dog. Don't get me wrong, I love a good New Jersey hot dog, but I've never thought it would top this list, although I'm glad it did.
